BAPTISM at the River

Are you interested in being baptized on Easter Sunday at The River? Here is some helpful truth for you; truth we hope will help you in your decision making.

Christian baptism is a visible public expression of a person who believes & embraces the truth about Jesus Christ.

“Jesus Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, He was buried, He was raised to life on the third day according to the Scriptures.” (1 Corinthians 15:3-4)

“If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is LORD’, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” (Romans 10:9)

Salvation is a gift that is given freely by God. Salvation is the result of the complete, atoning sacrifice Jesus Christ made for you when He died on the cross. According to the Bible, baptism is an initial expression of our faith that Jesus has saved us. We are compelled to be baptized because Jesus both commanded it and modeled it.  (Matthew 28:19; Mark 1:9-10)

At The River we encourage everyone who has believed & embraced the truth about Jesus Christ to be baptized. This visible public expression is a person’s opportunity to declare - before family, friends and the watching world - the joy & beauty of knowing we are loved by God, forgiven of our sins and we have been given eternal life through all Jesus has done for us!

At The River our method of baptism is immersion; a person is “laid down” backwards into the water until the water covers them entirely. They are then raised up to stand. We do this because we believe it was the method of baptism for Jesus, and we believe it best represents the picture of the death & burial of our former sin nature and the being raised up into our new life in Christ as God’s new creation.  (Romans 6:8-14; 2 Corinthians 5:17)
